Clinical Lead in Paediatric Diabetes.  Vic

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Paediatric Department at Peninsula Health.

A new position of Clinical Lead in Paediatric diabetes, based at Frankston Hospital (Peninsula Health). The position would be suited to either a paediatric endocrinologist with interest in diabetes or a general paediatrician with interest in diabetes.

The position is predominantly for provision of ambulatory care of children with diabetes. However the role is expanding to include supervision of in-patient care for either newly diagnosed patients or patients requiring stabilisation.

The position would be for 3-4 sessions each week. The multi-disciplinary clinic is held every Thursday morning and there is also the opportunity to be involved in transition of older adolescents to young adults diabetes service. The position would include a mixed role of clinical, database management, research and education of clinical staff.

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong educational skills as well as ability to work in a multi- disciplinary team. Within the diabetic ambulatory care setting there is an established allied health team, including dietitian, social worker, psychologist and diabetic nurse educators. There are also plans to develop a nursing educator role across both in and outpatients services to strengthen the continuity of care for many families.

The successful applicant would be expected to develop a model of care for the paediatric diabetes service at Frankston to encompass new innovations within diabetes care as well as to develop a close working relationship with the acute paediatric service. The model of care will be developed in consultation with the Clinical director of paediatrics. The position has no after hours / on call component, with exception that YADS is held as an evening clinic monthly.
